Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire
Friday
7th April 2006 5:30pm
A
select gathering of singers came down to Salisbury cathedral for Spezzati's
first engagement this year. A dynamic repertoire of music set for Evensong
was sung very competently by the singers, despite holdups on the motorway
resulting in a very late arrival for some! However, Evensong
went very well, (including the liturgical premiere of Brian Moles' Drop,
Drop Slow Tears), and the Precentor wrote a letter to the choir
thanking them for their efforts and for a very pleasant Evensong.

The
choir sang in celebration of the one hundred and seventy fifth anniversary
of the church's founding. A mixed programme of music
was conducted by three different people. Due to the last minute departure
of the organist due to personal reasons, the MD ended up playing the
organ for the concert, whilst the choir was ably conducted by Dan Watts,
Paul Robertson and Brian Moles when not in the loft. An audience of
sixty strong enjoyed a concert of both sacred and secular music, some
of whom had come to previous concerts. The concert was followed by a
buffet supper afterwards.
