Brian gained both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Royal Holloway, part of the University of London. During his time there, he he held the posts of both Organ and Choral Scholar, conducted the university chamber choir, as well as running departmental choirs and orchestras. He held the post of acting Organist and Director of Chapel Music during the Sabbatical of the college organist in 2003. After a period as Assistant Organist at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Cardiff, Brian returned to the London area, where he pursued a busy career as a teacher, composer and performer, as well as being a Lay Clerk at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban. In September 2009 he was appointed Organist and Director of Music at St Mary's, Portsea.

Brian's time is divided between a busy teaching career, as a composer and as a performer. His work as an organist has seen him play in Notre Dame, Paris; St David's Hall, Cardiff and St Paul's Cathedral, London; as well as performing in several other Cathedrals around the UK and abroad. As a singer, he has been a Tenor soloist in various works, including Schubert Offertorium and Mass in G, Haydn Nelson Mass and Mozart Vespers.

As a conductor and animateur, Brian has had extensive experience working with groups of all ages and all sizes, both amateur and professional. He is equally at home standing in front of a 140 strong community choir as he is working with a group of six singers, or enthusing and encouraging young people to sing and perform.

Brian is also an active composer, writing for various different genres, including solo songs, chamber music, music for orchestra, as well as writing for the choral music genre. He has been a finalist in and winner of several competitions, and is regularly being commissioned to write new works. Recently he has had works performed in London, and in various Cathedrals and minsters, including St Albans, Canterbury, Truro and Beverley. Drop, Drop Slow tears, a work for unaccompanied mixed choir, has recently been published by Boosey and Hawkes in their publication, Calmo. Some audio samples of his choral works can be found below.

Brian is also musical director of St Mary's Voices, a small chamber group from Portsmouth.

Outside of music Brian has a liking for the countryside, cooking and visiting rural public houses.
